Seed & Sod Lawns | ||
Matthew R. Foti Landscape and Tree Service, Inc offer complete services for installation of both seed and sod lawns. Seed lawns are typically applied with the hydro seed method. The seed is sprayed on with a paper emulsion that helps retain moisture and contains a started fertilizer. That promotes seed germination. Generally a blended seed is used to perform best in full sun or shade. A hydro seed lawn could best be compared to an athletic field which requires a little less fussing with. Hydro seed makes for a more drought tolerant lawn that can take a bit more foot traffic. The optimum time to plant a seed lawn is mid August to mid September when the weather cools and we are past the weed season. Spring and early summer are okay times to plant seed but require preemergent weed and crabgrass controls applied. Sod lawns are instant lawns and are generally 99% bluegrass which will require a bit more chemicals to keep then uniform. Whether you opt for seed or sod lawns unless you have an automatic sprinkler system it is almost impossible to establish and maintain a lawn area without uniform moisture. Proper grading is also a key element when installing a lawn. Grass will not grow in a puddle. The professionals at Matthew R. Foti Landscape and Tree Service, Inc. have a lot of experience making water run the way it is supposed to; away from the house and foundation.
